Draft of Eaton Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, September 14, 2009 Present: Paul Savchick, Rick Young, Dick Brisbois, Dick Fortin, Tom Head, Marnie Cobbs Treasurer’s Report: Conservation Fund $7,730.52 Forest Fund $12,729.98 Total: $20,460.50 Land Protection: USVLT land committee members, Ken McKenzie and ECC members Cobbs & Fortin walked some of lines on McKenzie piece on Saturday 9/5/09. USVLT board meets tonight to approve project. Purity Lake: Historical Resources report not yet completed. On line query shows no results. Land Clearing: Brown arrived Friday 9/11/09 and cleared Manson Hill and began the northern most section of Foss. ECC pleased with results and voted unanimously to appropriate another $8400.00 for three more days of cutting, extending to Friday noon. All are committed to keeping the ridge maintained by means of fire and possibly mowing. Burn date will be fall 2011. Paul’s pictures of brontosaurus will go into kiosk with an updated report. Willis Bean Road: Paul has pictures of erosion, extent of work necessary to be decided by field trip 9/22/09. Meet at Dick Fortin’s house at 4pm. Primitive but passable was discussed as guidelines. Paul thinks we need a culvert as well as some added material to crown and keep silt from entering brook. Former Burri property erosion discussed, Dennis Sullivan, managing property for Phil Green, is working out solution with EVPS. Letter from Don Hall’s daughter, Fish and Wildlife employee in VA, describing section of lake she scuba dived in and good health of lake. Closure at Peddlar’s End: It was discussed that the water bars, closure of road and landing area are inadequate, and that ECC should keep several thousand dollars from each timber sale to close out to our satisfaction. Want our forest management work to be exemplary. It was agreed upon to discuss specific expectations for our forester at the October meeting. Tripp Farm: Paul visited, expectations unclear as is location of landing site. Tom shared some good Foss Mt stories about Frank French. Marnie mentioned suggestion of putting sign on Foss explaining ECC’s commitment to Foss and to keeping berries going and view open, with invitation for donation of x amount per pint of blueberries, strictly voluntary. Possible Friends of Foss Blueberries or such. Meeting adjourned around 9:15pm. |
