The ECF deficit resulted from the payment of $7400 to the Brown and Co. for the brontosaurus work that left $330.24. It was unanimously voted to transfer, on a temporary basis, $1500 from the FMF to the ECF. The payment to Brown and Co. was unanimously ratified.
4.LAND PROTECTION Negotiations re: the McKenzie land on Foss Mt. are still in progress.
5.DREDGE AND FILL The Wetlands Bureau approved the boat ramp at Purity Lake.
6.FOREST MANAGEMENT A. Paul and Rick reviewed the Peddlar’s End log landing which still needs work. Paul, Rick and Dick Fortin reviewed the Tripp Farm log landing and all felt the work, including the berm placed there, is not adequate. An estimate to upgrade both sites is $5000 - $6000 for 10 – 12 truckloads of stable gravel.
B.Expectations of the forester and the ECC ‘s need to have a future plan for the Town’ forest management. Paul will talk with he forester, prior to the next ECC meeting, presenting the ECC expectations:
a. Good silvacultural practices
b. Log landings to be located "high and dry", reusable for reentry for future logging operations, and kept as wildlife openings. Prior to seeding the ground should be scarified and conservation mix put down.
c. Better communication with the ECC, i.e. giving more notice about upcoming operations so ECC members can look over the sites. For each sale a contract should be given to the selectmen at least a month in advance so they can look it over.
d. Better PR with residents along areas to be logged.
e. Presentation of near-term and long-tem plans foe timbering Town lands:; what will the land base support and how often timbering should be done.
6.FOSS MOUNTAIN The brontosaurus cutting work is complete for 2009. The brush on the south side of the trail is bigger and will take longer. Tim Merrifield, owner of abutting blueberry fields has been popping rocks in his fields.
