Eaton Conservation Commission

June 8, 2009


1.Meeting called to order by Paul Savchick. Present were Paul Savchick, Rick Young, Dick Brisbois, Judy Fowler, Marnie Cobbs and Tom Head.


2.ADMINISTRATION Minutes of the 5/11/09 meeting were unanimously accepted.


3.TREASURER’S REPORT Dick Brisbois reported:

A. Eaton Conservation Fund $ 7,623.58

Forest Management Fund 13, 461.34

$ 21 084.92

B. Henney Trust meeting. Dick Brisbois attended this meeting presented by Michael Wrenn, manager, who said Bank Of America assets are down 42% from last year so that interest the ECC received is much lower than last year.

C. Tin Mt. Conservation Center scholarships – it was unanimously approved for ECC to provide scholarships for Eaton grandparents who are paying for camperships for grandchildren.

D. Accounts Payable – Unanimously approved to pay Dan Stepanauskas $375 for fixing water bars and seeding at the last logging site. Rick checked the area and it looks good.

E. Road repair near Robert Koch – Rick will follow up re: use of rotten rock near this home site for Stewart Heath to use in repair.


4.CRYSTAL LAKE On 6/2/09 Dick B. and staff from the Loon Center placed the artificial nest, made by Dick, in a spot on the lake chosen by Loon Center staff.


5.LAND PROTECTION Marnie has been contacted by the appraiser, Chuck Shubert, who will meet with the people involved in the land on Foss Mt. and then look over the property.


6.NTURAL RESOURCES INVENTORY No contact yet with the person who will be doing this.


7.EATON MASTER PLAN Some goals and objectives given to Paul.


8.DREDGE AND FILL Re: the NH Fish and Game application for a public boat access on Purity Lake, Paul shared his response to the Wetlands Bureau requesting a 40 day suspension of decision until the ECC can respond with a report and advisory comments. It also requests suspension until the NH Div. of Historical Resources has completed its Archaeological Sensitivity Assessment (as stated in the application) and ECC has reviewed and commented on it.


9.MONTHLY TASK LIST This was discussed and Judy will send the latest version.


10.FOSS MOUNTAIN A. Paul talked with Steve Snook of the John Brown Co. and they will look at access issues and priorities for clearing brush on Foss and Manson Hill view site. Re funding, $8000 was appropriated at Town meeting for brush clearing and there are funds from NH Fish and Game for of 75% of cost up to $2000 per year, not to exceed $6000 over three years.

B. Re: new bridges on Willis Bean Rd., ECC members will inspect that area at the next ECC meeting on 7/13/09, gathering at Town Hall at 5:30 PM.


11.INVASIVE SPECIES WORKSHOP will be held at and out on Crystal Lake with Amy Smagula of DES on Sunday, 8/9/09 at 10:00AM.


Next meeting will be July 13, 2009 at 5:30 PM.
