DRAFT Eaton Conservation Commission July 13, 2009 1.Meeting called to order by Rick Young. Present were Rick Young, Dick Brisbois, Judy Fowler, Marnie Cobbs and Tom Head. 2. ADMINISTRATION Minutes of the 6/8/09 meeting were unanimously accepted. 3.TREASURER’S REPORT Dick Brisbois reported: Eaton Conservation Fund $ 7,623.87 Forest Management Fund 13,461.86 $21,085.73 Deposit was made of $10,009 from the Henney Fund for 2008. It was unanimously voted to pay Stuart Heath $358 for picking up and spreading a load of fill by the Koch property. 4.DREDGE AND FILL There have been complaints about increasing coarseness of sand at the Town beach. Selectmen have submitted an application with fee of $2000 (fees have gone up significantly), to the state to put down 4 – 5’’ of mortar sand. Purchase of the sand will also be significant and this will be put to a vote at the next Town meeting 5.FOSS MOUNTAIN Prior to the regular meeting ECC members went up to Foss Mt. and looked over the landing of the most recent logging operation near Peddler’s End, the new bridges on Willis Bean Rd. and the state of the path up to the Foss summit. Water bars at the log landing seemed inadequate even allowing four-wheelers to get through, and germination of seeded grass was poor. This will be relayed to Paul for discussion with the forester. The Willis Bean bridges looked good – some concern re: side drainage that will be monitored. The path up Foss looked quite good, especially with all the recent rain but there are concerns about people walking along the sides of the stonework. 6.CRYSTAL LAKE There have been no loon offspring in the artificial nest. The loon population is down in general everywhere. 7.LAND PROTECTION Marnie reported that the independent appraiser recently looked over the McKenzie property on Foss and said he would send a report in a couple of weeks. Next meeting: August 10, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM Respectfully submitted by Judy Fowler, secretary. |
