EVANS MEMORIAL BUILDING

BOARD OF SELECTMEN

May 27, 2008

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen took place on Tuesday, May 27th at the Evans Memorial Building. Present were Rick Young, Don Philbrick and Aaron Blake. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.

The Selectmen reviewed checks and signed the accounts payable manifest for $87,697.36 for 13 items.

The minutes for the meeting of May 29th were accepted as amended.

Rick Young said he had spoken with Ralph Meade who had apologized for construction taking place at Camp Waukeela without first filing a building permit.. Later in the meeting, Ralph Meade came in with a building permit application to construct a new (20' x 36') cabin on property located off Rte 153 (Tax map R3 lot 27). The application was reviewed, approved and signed by the Board of Selectmen (Building permit # 2806). The fee of $72 was paid by check.

Rick Young said that Louise Gray had repeated her request for the War Memorial plaque

be moved to the Little White Church or the Cemetery. The Selectmen were of the opinion that the present location on the steps leading to the main floor of Town Hall provided greater visibility than either of the other locations. Setting the Memorial outside under the flagpole was another suggested location. The Selectmen noted that extending the Memorial to include additional names of deceased veterans would be a major undertaking.

Shirlie Lieber (and friends) met with the Selectmen and filed a building permit application for a 24' x 26' addition to an existing house on property located on Rte 153. The application was reviewed, approved and signed by the Board of Selectmen (Building permit # 2805). The fee of $62.40 was paid by check.

Rick Young said the web site needed updating.

Jason Lodge of Hoyle, Tanner and Associates had told Rick Young that everything was on hold for replacing the Potter Rd bridge until the archaeological survey was complete. It is due to get underway this week.

There had been a call from a concerned resident about possible tree cutting on the shore of Conway Lake. Rick Young had had a look but had not seen any activity. However, the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act has undergone a revision and the revised statute

changes the way in which the limited tree cutting allowed within the shoreland protection area is measured.

A copy of the proposed agreement between involved parties over accessing the Kennett backlot off the old Lary Rd (Tax map R6, lot 8) was distributed. The matter goes before the Zoning Board of Adjustment next week.

Aaron Blake discussed the chains he had available for the cemetery fence. Estimations indicated they would not be long enough.

The Planning Board had elected Paul Savchick as Chairman, Nancy Malvesta as Vice Chairman and Dennis Sullivan as Secretary at their last meeting, New alternates are needed for the Planning Board.

Gloria Williams has given notice that she will not be available as a ballot clerk for the September 9th primaries but will be available for the elections in November.

An issue over a tax lien was discussed and resolved.

Susan Brooks signed checks.

Signature item was a letter to John Edge denying an abatement request for property on Crystal Lake.

Attorney Tim Bates had written indicating he will be retiring soon.

The 911 address for the Wasserman property is 79 Bean Rd.

LGC Bulletin #23 discussed the issues coming up before the Committees of Conference as the New Hampshire House and Senate seek to reconcile their differences.

Suzanne Raiche and Jeanne Hartman were in attendance.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
